Ixchel is the Maya Goddess of the Moon, of childbirth, rainbows, weaving, fertility, healing and lovemaking. She wears a snake on her forehead to signify that she is the Goddess of medicine and to symbolize intuitive knowledge. She kneels because she is at a back strap loom weaving. She is responsible for the formation of a baby in the mother's womb and deciding if a child would be male or female.
